A Study of Depressed Mood and Antidepressiue Behavior in Female College Students


Abstract
This study was attempted to survey. the depressed mood and to identify the repertoires of antidepressive behavior in female college students.
The subjects for this study were 200 students in our junior nursing college located in Chinju city. The data was collected through questionnaires from June 1 to June 10, 1991. The three instruments used for this study were Beck¢¥s depression inventory (BDI), Zung¢¥s self rating depression scale (SDS) and antidepressive behavior questionnaire.
The data were analyzed by percentage, mean, SD, t-test and Pearson correlation coefficient using by SPSS program.
The summary of the major findings of this study as follows
1. 21.1% of respondents was depression group.
2. In comparison of rank order of the items of SDS, "confusion (3.20)" was the highest rank order and "suicidal rumination (1.18)" was the lowest rank order.
3. SDS mean score was 43.41 (SD 6.33) in non-depression group, and 52.21 (SD 5.34) in depression group.
4. Antidepressive behavior repetoires were collected 1037.
5. In comparison of rank order of the items of behavior repetoires, "Listen to music 14,75%" was the highest rank order and "Communication with family menber , (0.38%)" was the lowest - rank order.
6. Frequency of antidepressive behavior was no significant difference between depression group and non-depression group.
7. Effective ness of antidepressive behavior was no significant difference between depression group and non-depression group.
8. The Correlation between depressive symptom and frequency was not statistically significant.
9. The correlation between depressive symptom and effectiveness was not statistically significant.
